Response
to the Podcast "Freakonomics: "Twitter is a 2 Way Street""
As a matter of fact, most twitter users are willing to have more followers
in their twitter account. But they have two options, follow it back or just
follow their truly friend. Focusing on the most popular all over the world,
some people follow it back to show their respect like Obama, even though it’s
impossible for him to look at all the tweets. At the same time, the more
followers you have, the more popular you are in the world. There is no doubt
the followers is a new norm to identify if you are a public figure. For
example, Justin Bieber has many followers in his twitter account. As one of the
most popular figure in the pop culture, he is still marketable name and has
huge commercial value. If he publishes a tweet, it will grab more attention
than traditional commercial advertisement.
In China, we also have the similar tools like Sina Microblog. But the Sina
Microblog platform is evolving far beyond the general concept laid down by
Twitter. Sina Microblog responded by saying it will intervene and delete
inactive followers regularly. So you can probably see that every major feature
in the Sina Microblog exists to attract new users, retain elite users, and
encourages all users to tweet more and have more fun!
With the development of Web 2.0
and social 3.0, twitter demonstrates what problem it is in this new revolution.
